IP ban What?

Hey guys, I seemed to have been IP banned, By either stoked or sorryamerica(HAXORX?)
Can Ryft, Or Bajuba take my name off of the Ip ban list?

It seems that Stoked may have had his account hacked... I believe this game is not very secure. We read the log and his account had been posted as IP banning a number of people (including myself). We have removed everyone from the IP ban list and have decided that from now on noone other than the main admins (Ryft, Gaiadin, Bajuba) are allowed to use IP ban. It is only really useful for people who have hacked other peoples accounts. That way it allows us to ban hackers but not the actual players. A few people were deleted from the OP list so don't be surprised if you lost your OP. We just weren't sure what the cause was at first.

The hacker also somehow got into my account and we have to keep IP banning him. If this keep up, we may have to drop the server for a little while.

Once again, we are not 100% sure if Stoked is the one actually doing this or not or if its a hacker but we will try to prevent this as much as possible.

[EDIT] Did the hacker in question ban/deop OPs that weren't on the server at the time? Like me, for instance? That could determine whether it really is stoked or not.

You know what. Also ryft what happens if you remove the Ip ban list from the minecraft server file? Will it make it so we can't IP ban? You could just do that for a while. So stoked/hacker/whoever can't Ip ban us.

well Bj that doesn't make it so only we can IP ban... was just kind of stating that as a new rule. The reason we deleted everyone from it was because we can't tell who is who from that list and he had already IP banned some people. I am not sure how to disable OP commands and there isn't different level of OPs... we are just as much an OP as you guys are. As of now we have no solution except to hope he just quits messing around. If we keep the server up while he is doing this, he could get even more peoples passwords. I made a post on the official forums about this so hopefully it will get some attention. We might reopen it sometime in the next few days and see what happens... we can always restore map files and edit the ban lists.

I am sorry about the inconvenience guys. I hope you don't lose faith in us, but we are just working with what we have.

Oh and Pimp... my guess is that the server will just create a new one when someone IP bans. Would make sense but it's always something we could try.

EDIT: In response to Bj asking about deops... if later anyone notices they lost their OP, it's because my brother removed a few people whose names he didn't recognize when we first noticed what was happening. We may re-op you when we get this sorted out.

I might have found a solution but I will probably keep the server down till tomorrow when it is more active so I can test it. You shouldn't have problems connecting, but if you do go ahead and post here and I will look into it.

EDIT: I have decided to just leave it up overnight and see if anything happens. Go ahead and try to join. If something happens, we can always restore it. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience guys. We know you all have worked hard on our server and we will do what we can to keep it going.

Wait so can OPs still ban just not IP?

It isn't disabled, but yes the same banning rules apply. Only ban people for griefing or if they are being intentionally inappropriate (spamming, constant foul language, etc). Use common sense to decide whether you should ban someone or not. IP ban is for more serious issues like a returning griefer (if it obvious its the same person).

So now there's a separate command for ip banning because someone told me /ban would IP ban

What If I see someone like cartmanblues banning other admins, And none of the main OPs are on... Can I use a IP ban then?

What happens when you /ban someone is that it just adds their name to a document in the server folder. I.E. /ban Ryft would add the name Ryft and I would not be able to join with that name. /ipban adds that players IP to a separate document for banned IPs... that way they would not be able to join on any other names they made unless they found a way to work around it.
